Spring Break is here! My very good friend from college is visiting and we have a jam packed 2 weeks planned. I'm so excited I can barely hold it in. Me and my friends are going to Nicaragua and then Kristin (my friend from school) and I are going to the Bay Islands, just the 2 of us. I'm really looking forward to that. It'll feel like I have a little piece of St. Louis and I'll have fun and it'll do my heart a lot of good.

Exposed Brick Walls
I looooove exposed brick! My home is about 50 -50 exposed brick and plastered walls. Bricks add warmth to any room plus they look fabulous when combined with almost any color...except the neons obvi. ;)

Sitting in the Bedroom
I'm loving the idea of sitting area in front of the bed (rather than a TV!). My room at home is the size of an egg carton so I don't have the luxury of a sitting area but here are some lovely examples!

Ugh... definitely ramblings
I'm so hoping this blog becomes a cathartic experience in my life. I need it to be even if no one ever reads it. I feel the need to surround myself with quality people. God, they're so hard to find! I wanna feel INVOLVED. INTERESTED. PIQUED. This heartbreak brought so much truth. I was pretty much slapped by the reality of the way I live. So afraid. I want so much and have no idea how to get from point A to point B. I have 2 degrees and no job and don't feel like getting one. What would I feel happy committing my life to? The reality of things right now is that I would be perfectly happy with meeting a good boy, falling in love, make a life together and just raise many of his babies. But... in my heart I feel like I should ask "Would this be cheating on myself?" "Are you this afraid of what you could do that you won't even try?"
He broke up with me and I realized I had broken up with myself long before he did. I stayed for him, I accepted things for him, I compromised for him, I forgave things for him. But I never drew the line for ME.
Sometimes I feel like a divorced 60 year old woman. Where do you go from here?
But I'm told there are better things to come...

10 Things Mothers Should Teach Their Sons
"There's a special bond between mothers and sons. Women raising boys have the power to shape the next generation of men and those to come by teaching their kids important lessons." So true!
- To express his emotions because bottling them up eventually makes a person explode.
- To say "ladies first," hold doors open for women, and give his date the jacket off his back when he or she is cold because the world is moving forward in wonderful ways but that doesn't mean chivalry has to die.
- To put the toilet seat down after he pees, change his sheets frequently, learn to cook, and do laundry.
- To channel his energy through sports, art, dance, the written word — whatever his passion may be.
- That even the biggest fight should be settled with the mind rather than fists.
- That not following the group doesn't make him a loser, but his own leader.
- To stick up for the underdog even if it makes him an outcast.
- That he has the power to make an amazing difference in life.
- To worry less about whether she's proud of him and more about having pride in himself.
- Smiles are free so be generous with them.

So true right now
This is a poem I found a long time ago. I don't know who wrote it but it is beautifully sad and so applicable right now...
Dime
Dime por favor donde no estás
en qué lugar puedo no ser tu ausencia
dónde puedo vivir sin recordarte,
y dónde recordar, sin que me duela.
Dime por favor en que vacío,
no está tu sombra llenando los centros;
dónde mi soledad es ella misma,
y no el sentir que tú te encuentras lejos.
Dime por favor por qué camino,
podré yo caminar, sin ser tu huella;
dónde podré correr no por buscarte,
y dónde descansar de mi tristeza.
Dime por favor cuál es la noche,
que no tiene el color de tu mirada;
cuál es el sol, que tiene luz tan solo,
y no la sensación de que me llamas.
Dime por favor donde hay un mar,
que no susurre a mis oídos tus palabras.
Dime por favor en qué rincón,
nadie podrá ver mi tristeza;
dime cuál es el hueco de mi almohada,
que no tiene apoyada tu cabeza.
Dime por favor cuál es la noche,
en que vendrás, para velar tu sueño;
que no puedo vivir, porque te extraño;
y no puedo morir, porque te quiero.

Apple Popovers
I'm dying to try this recipe but my oven is broken :(
Apple PopoversServes 8
Ingredients
For the Apple Filling:
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and cut into 8 slices each
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup flour
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 cup cream cheese, room temperature
- 1 ½ tablespoons brown sugar
Get Cookin'
1. Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium high heat. Add the apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon, and stir to coat. Cook uncovered for 20 to 25 minutes until apples are soft, but not mushy. Cool.
2. To prepare the popovers, preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
3. In a large bowl, whisk the eggs and milk together. Add the flour, salt, sugar, and melted butter, and continue to whisk until a smooth batter forms.
4. Grease a muffin tin and fill with 2-3 cooked apple slices per muffin cup. Place in the oven for 5 minutes to heat up the tins. Remove tins from the oven and pour batter over the apples to fill cups ¾ of the way to the top.
5. Bake for 10 minutes at 425 degrees F, then reduce to 375 degrees F and continue to bake for another 20 minutes. They should be golden brown. Remove from oven and spoon into serving dishes. Flip the popovers so that the apples are on top.
6. While the popovers are baking, mix the cream cheese and brown sugar for the cream.
7. Place in the refrigerator until needed.

Yay for Decorating!
I don't own my own home or will in the near future, but I keep a file in my laptop of rooms and spaces I would like to incorporate or draw inspiration from someday. This laundry room is so adorable I couldn't help my self ^-^

Yay! My very first post evah!
This blog is the realization of many many sleepless nights. I was a bit weary about starting it but it's finally here. I'm at a crossroads in my life where I'm taking the luxury of time. This is a chance for me to share the things I love like interior design, cool spaces, cute things, useless information, yummy recipes and I'm sure other crazy things I'll come up with. Hopefully this will be an outlet for many many longings that I hope some day will come true.
